History
In the 6 years prior to developing the SQUARE 1 System™, Shawn Sherman was using a system that placed great emphasis on a range of motion screening process and on testing specific muscle functions in order to provide movement correction plans for his clients. Like many others who were using that system, Shawn produced excellent results for his clients, although those results were inconsistent. Some people would receive very obvious benefits while other people would need 6, 8, or even 15 sessions and still not get better. The success of that particular system was hinging on too much guesswork.
One client in particular, named Alan, had symptoms that would actually intensify after using that (pre-SQUARE 1System™) system. After meeting with Alan weekly at first, and then monthly, for 4+ years and getting nowhere, Shawn had an epiphany. He wondered, “What if the range of motion screens aren't really giving us an accurate assessment of what’s truly occurring inside the body?” Based on his background, this concept was very counter-intuitive and didn't, at first, make sense to Shawn. But after dozens of sessions with Alan and essentially getting nowhere, a new approach was warranted.
In late summer 2008, Shawn decided to use an exact opposite approach with Alan. The very next day, after leading Alan through a series of exercises around this new unconventional approach, Alan called Shawn and said: “I know this probably won’t make sense to you, but it feels as if my head is screwed back on top of my body again. I feel weirdly normal. Also, I just shot 12 strokes better [in golf] than I have in any round from the past 10 years!”
After that one experience, Shawn became ultra inquisitive. He had many new unanswered questions about the body. Questions such as: “What actually constitutes normal movement?”, “When can we trust range of motion exams?”, “Can we trust range of motion examinations as meaningful tools at all?” and “What are the commonalities with movement that we all share?” He set out to find answers to his questions.
After thousands of sessions and years of development, Shawn came up with a system that is effective, efficient, accurate, and repeatable. It is called the SQUARE 1 System™. The SQUARE 1 System™ methodology identifies and restores proper motor control so that the need to compensate is reduced.
SQUARE 1 System™ Sessions:
*Painless.
*Non-invasive.
*Neuro-response testing.
*Active and passive joint actions.
*Restore poor signaling so that compensation is diminished and outcomes improve.
*Proprietary 214-joint action map.
